Over the past month, every second year History student has had an opportunity to visit Trim Castle and the site of the BlackFriary archaeological dig. On successive Wednesdays in September the students visited the sites, accompanied by their subject teacher. The teachers involved were Ms E Flynn, Ms S Colgan, Ms S Bannigan, Mr J Bird & Ms I Caffrey. Walking around the grounds, viewing the artefacts, looking at the evidence of life lived in medieval Trim, meeting with the archaeologists on site, filling in questionnaires on-site, the students had a great opportunity to develop their skills as historians.

We would like to particularly thank the team of archaeologists at Black Friary – Laura, Mark and Finola – for hosting these 140+ students, providing us with such valuable insight into the role of archaeology in developing our understanding of history. The girls learned so much and really enjoyed the experience.
